EMSP
We have developed a shadowing program within our department. This allows medical students early exposure to Emergency Medicine, including pediatric EM.
WHO CAN SHADOW?
M1, M2 and M3 students attending the University of Michigan Medical School.
STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES
You are here strictly to observe the assigned attending in the ED. You will not have any direct hands-on patient care.
HOW TO ARRANGE SHADOWING
Contact rotation coordinator, Heather Wourman via email (cerovski@umich.edu ). She will coordinate setting up dates and times. *Once you are scheduled, this is considered a firm commitment on your part and you will be expected in the ED at the designated time. Out of courtesy to your peers and EM Department, please notify us at least three days in advance if you will be unable to attend your scheduled shadowing experience.
WHEN WILL THIS OCCUR?
This will occur throughout the academic year. We will try to avoid scheduling shadowing shifts May-August when many M4s are coordinating special shifts with EM attendings for recommendation letters.
DRESS CODE
You are required to wear your UM ID Badge at all times, as well as a short white coat. Professional attire is preferred (shirt, tie); however, scrubs are acceptable as well (under the short white coat). If you are shadowing in the Peds ED, then professional attire only.
WHO TO REPORT TO
Upon confirmation with Heather through email, she will inform you which physician you are to report to once arriving in the ED.
